Fancy a remote movie night with your loved ones during lockdown?

Whilst online movie nights might sound like something impossible, the technology now allows us to come closer and they're actually a great way to spend an evening together when they're done right

Choosing the right platform to watch it on

Thanks to the internet, there are plenty of options when it comes to apps and add-ons to make lockdown movie nights a bit more social.

Netflix Party is probably the best out there for watching anything on Netflix. It's a simple, free Google Chrome add-on. You just pick a show, send a link to everyone who's getting involved and you're done. There are no delay issues as it just uses your own Netflix account to watch it through.

Both Kast and Discord allow you to stream your screen or an application to a party with almost no delay. There's voice and video chat as well, to feel even closer.

Choosing the right film

Deciding what to watch can be the most difficult part of the movie night. Ultimately, finding the right film comes down to personal preference, but we’ve rounded up some insights to consider when you’re searching for the perfect film for any situation.

Don't forget the snacks You can’t have a movie night in without snacks, so here are some suggestions.

Popcorn bar:

A movie night wouldn't be right without the smell of popcorn. Simply pop a HUGE batch of popcorn, and set out some sweet popcorn toppers. This way you get to please both your savory and sweet tooth!

Chocolate fondue:

Melt that chocolate and grab lots and lots of fruit! Go for variety: strawberries, apples (my personal favorite), bananas, pineapples (super delicious!), grapes, blueberries or whatever you happen to have in your fridge!

Homemade hot chocolate:

Melt one bar of Bournville chocolate in one litre of red Guernsey milk and you will get the smoothest hot chocolate ever! This is a must make recipe and super easy. Make sure you load your cup with plenty of marshmallows, whipped cream.
